css font COMMENTS

Welcome to my Comments Pages

Please note. I get a few hundred emails a week from visitors asking for help, or posing questions on how to modify my demos to suit their application and I read them all. Unfortunately I only have a limited amount of time to spend answering these questions.

So if I do not reply, please do not be offended, and if I do reply then you are one of the lucky ones.

If you are asking for permission to use any of my demonstration then please email me with your request stu{at}cssplay.co.uk.

Another way to hide the mail address with CSS, but much less bloat:

<div style="padding:5px;font-family:'Courier New',monospace; line-height:0%;text-indent:1ex; letter-spacing:1ex;">
hekrhnyhod<br />cnuice@ao.e
</div>

Nice idea. Opera doesn't quite make it though as it makes the y look like a v.

Oliver Schaarschmidt:-
Also works with Konqueror, the KDesktop Enviroment's Browser.

Gary LaPointe:-
It's very cool, but why not just display it as a graphic? This way seems like you will cut out some browsers, especially handhelds and phones...

Stu:-
The author of the article makes reference that spam bots are able to read image information from their files.

oli:-
isn´t it enough (to keep the spam bots out) to "backward" the text
as shown in your e-mail-part?
(30.07.2004, 19:36)

Stu:-
@oli - backward text is probably ok but it would be easier for spam bots to crack it (and they will).

Josh:-
Whoa. That must have taken a while......

Why.

Stu:-
Why not?

Great idea!
I've made a PHP class which I use to hide email addresses from spam bots. Here's a link to the demo and the class source:

Stu Love the site. it now my favorite site to go for css tricks. but would it be possible for you to put up a link up for you css file only? every time i find something I like I view source then copy it but I have to spend 5 minutes taking out all the adds links and everything else just so I can study the css only. Just a suggestion...

David Gunter:-
Resizing fonts within the browswer doesn't work for your CSS fonts. How easy would it be to implement that? This is a nifty idea, though.

john:-
I don't really understand how this is done? Is it just the combination of the div classes you are using?

Dan Atkinson:-
Another great piece of work Stu!

I think that combining this with some code which rotates css naming will make this a replacement for captchas. Saying that, captchas are still better for this sort of thing.

KUTGW!!

Looks cool :)

This method is only accessible for CSS browsers. For text browsers, screen-readers, braille browsers, handheld etc. this solution is completely unaccessible, so as the site webmaster using this technique ;P Nice c00l trick, but nothing more, not an universal and acceptable solution for the web.

OMG. I was already impressed with your CSS abilities, but when I saw this and copied it onto my site... well, I can't close my jaw yet. I'm amazed. I would love it if you posted an explanation about how this works (or is the concept behind it already explained on your site somewhere else that I haven't found?). You're the guru, in the true sense of the word.

You're incredible! - And a Bloodhound Gang Fan - I think... ;)
