Doing it with style

tabbed pages COMMENTS

Welcome to my Comments Pages

Please note. I get a few hundred emails a week from visitors asking for help, or posing questions on how to modify my demos to suit their application and I read them all. Unfortunately I only have a limited amount of time to spend answering these questions.

So if I do not reply, please do not be offended, and if I do reply then you are one of the lucky ones.

If you are asking for permission to use any of my demonstration then please email me with your request stu{at}

Thankful, the hide class is in the style sheet for IE. Although I have since found that it is possible to merge the to styles using bespoke conditional comments that target non IE browsers as well as IE browsers.

Good job, but I am not able to select the text in the "emebedded" divs using Exploerer 6. Can someone tell me if is it possible to make the text selectable and how? Thanks.

Cara Cushing:-
first I would like to voice my appreciation for making this website, which has opened my eyes to a lot of really exciting possibilities with CSS.

I am using Firefox 1.0.7 and I wanted to let you know that I have a problem when viewing this demo (as well as I think a couple other demos with embedded links). When I mouse over "Claude Monet" for instance, the box underneath will open up and will stay even as I move my mouse off of "Claude Monet". As soon as my mouse hovers over a spot where a link is on the original layer (i.e. the google ads right below these tabs) the browser seems to interpret this as an attempt to click that link, and it closes the box. I haven't read through all of the comments, so i hope this does not prove to be repetitious). Again, thank you for your hard work on this site.

Cara, early versions of Firefox will have problems with some of my demonstrations especially with Google ads and flash. You really should update your version of Firefox as the newer versions do correct security problems and add better CSS support.

Hello Stu. I love your site and this demo. I just have a question. If I modify the tabs so that they each have a unique color (by giving each link an id), then the hover no longer works in IE and therefore does not display the drop down. Any ideas?

Stu, this is an awesome website. Thanks so much for all the info! Im wondering if I can modify the tabs to stay open with the information and just be able to select and choose which to view without them dropping down. Ive looked all over for something like this that isnt javascript. If you have any ideas Id appreciate it. Thanks!

Hi Stu, Hi Guys

I wonder if there is a way to make the first tab appear by default when the page loads.

Best Regards

I appreciate that, much...

I was wondering about one thing regarding this peace...of course if and when you find it possible...

I was thinking to ad to this tabbed pages some drop-line cascading menu.
I think it would be very practical thing to do .-))

actually Iam mixing a few of your things here but Its 2 much for me now...

having something like that on a front page would be a great space saver, :-))
thx! again...

Just getting started with CSS and found your site. Lots of great stuff here. I found the tabbed pages page and was wondering if it is possible to have one of the tabs show its content as a the default tab. Make sense?

Hi Stu - this is fantastic! Can't believe all the work you have done!!

Is there a way to modify this example so that one pane is always visible. Ie. when you load the page up, pane 1 is visible and as you hover over the menu items the pane just changes content, it doesn't disappear?

Many thanks!
