Welcome to my Comments Pages

Please note. I get a few hundred emails a week from visitors asking for help, or posing questions on how to modify my demos to suit their application and I read them all. Unfortunately I only have a limited amount of time to spend answering these questions.

So if I do not reply, please do not be offended, and if I do reply then you are one of the lucky ones.

Having been trying to do this for ages and not daring to ask you about it, all I can say is "Thankyou". You have been an inspiration in CSS for me for ages now and I promise that a donation will be forthcoming (after pay day;o)) ).
Cheers

very nice it is funny that i actually started to try to accomplish this same task 2 days ago but i.e 6 was having problems with the transition from the slide to the next link.

Kudos very nice.

Stu:-
RX, that was my main problem. The answer was to have all sub level menus the same height (that of the heighest sub level).

RX:-
ya here was my attempt that i was going to put on my site.

www.rx2-designs.com/example

since your version came out before mine was finished should i use yours instead?

you would get full credit of course.

its a non-profit site except for the templates "which i will not use the slide menu on"

Stu:-
RX, you can use my method if you wish.

I actually made a cleaner example when playing around with the original drop down menu. I think i just changed the float to center instead of left
(01.07.2006, 19:19)

Stu:-
Cameron, my previous drop down menus use position:absolute to position the drop down sub levels. This cannot be used to 'push' the next top level item below the sub level.

your method here is amazingly simple and brilliant, though i may be wrong, because i'm quite a CSS n00b!

i have a quick question though, and this may be an easy "no way" for you since, again, i dont really understand the css going on here, but, would there be a way to modify this so that the main category (in this case, say, "Products") is clickable (instead of it activating the sub menu when mouse-over) and is treated that way? i'd like to use this sort of thing for a project, but the submenu will have LOTS of links in it, and if somebody moves the mouse away, they'll have to mouseover the category and find the link they just picked, again...
(05.09.2006, 03:53)

Stu:-
Thomas, this would be nice if it were possible, but unfortunately it is not. With CSS as soon as you click a link (it has to be a link to use :active) then you cannot click another link. The second click will just lose the active state of the first link and the menu will close.
So you can only use multiple hovers with a final click to select the link.

this is a test: why do i get an error posting my message?
(23.09.2006, 01:35)

Markus:-
Hi Stu
compliment for your site!

Here my problem: I realized a site that contains a fixed Menu and has a content that repeats a block containing one or two columns. This site works decent, here a version: www.rcu.ch/fachstelle/aktuell14.html, but has the following bugs:
It does not print in Firefox.
I had to use Javascript for exchanging the pictures hoovering the textlinks.

I d be glad getting a answer

Markus:-
Hi Stu
thanks for your spirit!!!
After I posted my message, it seemd I clamed down and had today the tranquillity to discover the problem and solve it with conditionals.
Nervertheless the Idea to exchange a fixed picture by hoovering over multiple textlinks would be a challenge I think. I wish you a good time.

Jan:-
Hi Stu
In IE7 moving cursor upwards from "home" through menu opens submenus on hover. But if moving from top, i.e. "products" towards "home" every item from "services" collapses the submenus and moves "services" (and the others in turn)out of hover necessitating hovering a second time over same item to expand submenus. Is there a way of correcting this in IE7?
(29.11.2006, 22:20)

Stu:-
Jan, the menu works as it should in IE7. moving from top to bottom opens up the sublevels. Move onto PRODUCTS will open its sublevel. Move through this sublevel to SERVICES will close the PRODUCTS sublevel and open the SERVICES sublevel, the mouse will be towards the bottom of the sublevel but it will stay open, and so on through the top levels.

Chris:-
On the "CSS only vertical sliding menu", could you please tell me why its not possible to activate the submenus onclick? Thanks, Chris.
(15.03.2007, 10:56)

Thomas:-
Hi Stu
I think it´s a great menu and I would like to use it on my page. The problem is that when uploaded to my page it doesn't work with internet explorer (have tried with ie6 y 7) but do work with firefox and opera. Opening the page locally on my computer do work with internet explorer. Thanks for a great menu.
(26.03.2007, 12:48)

Richard:-
Stu, the submenus are limited to 6 selections. I would like to extend the limit to 9. Is this possible? In the affirmative, how?
Thanks in advance.

Abus:-
This is a great work again, Stu.

I wonder if there is a way to extend the limit of 6 items. Is it possible?

Best Regards

Tara:-
Hi Stu,

Your menu is just what I was looking for, thanks! I am having a problem however getting the submenus to appear in IE7.

If I use IE7 to view your site there's no problem, but when I copy and paste your code into my site the submenu doesn't appear in IE7...works in IE5.5, IE6, & FF...what am I missing??

bobvaz:-
I notice this menu is limited in size to 450 px..Is there a method of making that auto? or do you have another demo that includes auto sizing?
(28.12.2008, 03:16)

Ottomaister:-
Very clean menu, great job.
Can you see if this menu works in IE8? It does not for me unless compatibility mode is on.
(22.11.2010, 00:16)

Ottomaister:-
If content="IE=EmulateIE7" is take out of my code the menu does not function.
(22.11.2010, 00:46)

Stu:-
Just change all [if IE 7] to [if gte IE 7]
(22.11.2010, 08:15)

Ottomaister:-
Cha-ching. Yep that will do it.
And, auto sizing x height would be temendous as "bobvaz" lamented.
(22.11.2010, 12:19)

Gary:-
I would love to use something like your css3 image slide menu. Especially if could work with more images. I use contribute and am not a programmer. Or even something with a good drop down which can handle 1 inch or larger images. Any suggestions?
