Information

Based on my basic drop down menu, this one takes it a little further and adds background images to the main menu and the drop down menu.

Just to make it a little more interesting I have added flyout information text for each of the submenu items.

This has been tested on IE5.5, IE6, Firefox 1.5 and Opera 8. It should also be ok on Mozilla, Netscape and Safari.

Cascading Style Sheet

If you look at the header of this page you will see that the normal method of loading a file is used for the non-ie browser css.

<link rel="stylesheet" media="all" type="text/css" href="css/artists_dd.css" />

The artists_dd.css file

The IE only style sheet is loaded using the conditional comment.

<!--[if lte IE 6]>
<link rel="stylesheet" media="all" type="text/css" href="css/artists_dd_ie.css" />
<![endif]-->

The artists_dd_ie.css file

The xhtml

The xhtml code for the artists dropdown menu can be seen here in text format.

You will see that conditional comments have been used to hold the IE specific version of the menu which used nested tables. The other browsers will not see the tables and instead will use the normal unordered lists.

Please note that you will also need a standards compliant !doctype for this menu to work correctly.
