Experiments with Cascading Style Sheets

CSS only responsive multi level menu

Information

This is a multi level droplist menu suitable for all modern browsers and OS, including IE9+, touch screens, tablets and smartphones.

The menu works using mouse click for PCs and 'taps' for touch screens so there is no problem with accidental activation when hovering the menu items.

So click/tap any of the items with down arrows to open that sub menu, and to close an open sub menu either click the same top level item, or click another top level item, or click anywhere outside of the menu.

When viewed on a screen size smaller than 660px wide then the menu changes to a single column slide down.

This works in the same way, but it now has a third level structure so that the sub menu headings become click/taps to open their sub menu items.

The sub menus slide down and up in all browsers except IE9.
