FINALLY!!
A flyout menu in which the flyout is offset to overlay the previous level. Up until now this was a problem for Internet Explorer which insisted on placing the flyout under the the list items on the previous level.
This answer will only work when the height of each list item is known but at least it is an answer.
This works in IE5.5, IE6, IE7, Firefox, Opera etc.
